Irkutsk State Technical University (ISTU) is the oldest and with 30 000 students the largest technical university in Eastern Siberia. During 80 years of its activity the University trained about 130 000 specialists including more than 2 000 for foreign countries.
Irkutsk National Research Technical University started in the year 1930. It is counted among the top Universities which provide Engineering in Russia. When the university came into existence it was known as the Irkutsk State Research Technical University. However, after a few years it came to be known as Irkutsk National Research Technical University.
